Philosophy

The Body Toolkit philosophy is that overall health is the sum of how we move, eat and rest and how we think about ourselves.

Health = 50% how we treat the body + 50% how we think

The only way to get lasting results is to address and support both sides of the equation, where nutrition and exercise is of equal importance to the way we think and speak about our bodies and our health.

Health goals and weight loss fall into place naturally and can be maintained when we use the right tools to understand what the body needs, and cultivate supportive thinking patterns.

Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.
— Viktor E. Frankl

When it comes to health, we all have things that can bother us - for some of us these ‘stimuli’ can be in the form of ailments and conditions: e.g. skin problems, digestive issues or even low mood. Often our response to health issues in the body, is one of frustration, and a sense that the body is letting us down in some way. Why can’t I lose the weight? Why don’t I have more energy? But if we can cultivate compassion for our hard-working bodies, and listen compassionately to the 'messages' or feedback it gives us, often our health complaints are trying to communicate with us that something we are doing, or something in our environment, is not serving the body.

The Body Toolkit Retreats guide you to tune in and listen to the body with a compassionate ear, recognising your own power to respond proactively to the body's 'messages'. When we cultivate a compassionate relationship with our bodies, and understand that they are working for us, rather than against us, genuine "growth and freedom" can be experienced in a short space of time - which is something we see on every Body Toolkit Retreat.
